In the final game of the 2024-25 NFL season, the Jets and Giants were both not fighting for a spot in the playoffs, though both teams still put in their best effort for the matchups. The Jets took on the Miami Dolphins, who were in the playoff picture entering their game, while the Giants faced the Philadelphia Eagles, who had already clinched a spot in the playoffs.
Jets Win Final Game at MetLife Stadium This Season 32-20 Over Dolphins
The Jets begun the game similarly to how it had played out last week, struggling offensively, throwing an interception on their first play. The Dolphins took advantage of the turnover, scoring a field goal to take an early lead and added on with another field goal later. However, the Jets began to find their momentum as the second half took place, taking a 7-6 lead, thanks to a touchdown from Tyler Conklin, which was also the 500th in Aaron Rodgers’ career.
The Jets defense was now coming to life, collecting an interception on the next drive, though the Jets weren’t able to capitalize. The Jets forced another turnover on the next drive, this time a fumble and didn’t waste the opportunity, scoring another touchdown to make it 15-6 heading into halftime.
The second half opened with a punt for the Jets, though they scored a field goal on the next drive to make it a 18-6 game. The Dolphins responded back with a touchdown, their first of the game, making the game much more competitive as the clock ticked. The Jets scored a touchdown of their own to return back to a 12-point deficit for the Dolphins, stopping their offensive moves.
The Dolphins scored another touchdown, but just as had happened before, the Jets responded back. With only so much time remaining on the clock, a comeback seemed nearly impossible for the Dolphins to stage. Once the time ran out, the Jets earned the 32-20 victory.
Giants Lose 20-13 to Eagles Despite Late Offensive Surge
The Giants, who were facing an Eagles team that was without many of its starters, were just slight underdogs. The game didn’t get off to an ideal start for the Giants, however, as they were unable to score on their first drive, though the Eagles were able to score a quick touchdown. The Eagles added on a few more points with a field goal to give them a 10-0 lead.
The Giants’ offense struggled as they played in the first half, unable to put any points on the board. However, their defense did a good job of containing the Eagles, as they didn’t score any more points and entered halftime with a 10-0 lead over the Giants.
In their first drive of the second half, the Giants finally put points on the board, with a field goal to make it 10-3. In their next drive, they were unable to get anything going and the Eagles did not wait long to answer back, having punted and then scoring a touchdown on their next drive. The Giants, however, scored another touchdown to bring the deficit back down to 7 and give them a chance to stage a comeback.
The Giants scored a field goal on their next drive to make it a 17-13 game, now meaning a touchdown could give them the lead. The Eagles, however, responded with a field goal and the Giants threw an interception on their next drive to seal the win for the Eagles.
What to Look Out for With Season Ending
Now that the regular season has officially come to an end and neither the Jets nor Giants made the playoffs, there will be no more NFL games in the Meadowlands for a good amount of time. Both teams will now turn towards the draft, where the Giants will hold the No. 3 pick and the Jets will hold the No. 7 pick.
