Football in the Meadowlands Week 4: Jets & Giants Both Fall in Nail-Biting Losses

Last week, both the New York Jets & Giants walked away victorious in their matchups, bringing much optimism to the Meadowlands heading into next week’s games. For the Giants, it was less warranted, as they were still significant underdogs against the Cowboys, who they haven’t beaten since 2021. On the other hand, the Jets were favored going into their game against the Broncos, fresh off a dominant victory over the Patriots.

Giants Narrowly Lose to Cowboys 20-15

Entering the game, the Giants were heavy underdogs against the Dallas Cowboys, who have routinely beaten them for years. However, the Giants hoped to ride the momentum of their upset victory over the Browns last week to propel them to another win.

The game started off solid for the Giants, who were only down 7-6 after 2 field goals and a Cowboys touchdown. However, a 55-yard receiving touchdown from CeeDee Lamb put the Cowboys up, 14-6 and instantly shifted the momentum of the game. The Giants were able to kick another field goal to make it 14-9 before the first half came to an end, putting them in a much better position than many thought they would be in at this point.

The Giants opened up the second half with yet another field goal to make it 14-12, as they inched closer and closer. However, a Cowboys field goal brought the deficit back to what it was just a drive before.

After 2 more field goals, one from each team, the score was 20-15 and the Giants were in desperate need of a touchdown. Despite turning the ball over on downs, a missed field goal from the Cowboys kept the score the same and gave the Giants 30 seconds to push down the field. Unfortunately, they were unable to complete the comeback, but one bright spot remained on the team, which is Malik Nabers’ historic run in his rookie season continuing.

Jets Lose 10-9 on Missed Field Goal in Defensive Battle

Coming into the game fresh off a dominant performance against the Patriots, the Jets were hoping to keep the style of play going, as they had looked better than they had in years prior. However, the poor weather and Broncos defense stopped the offense’s momentum, as the first half consisted of dominant defensive performances from both sides. However, the Jets were still leading 6-0 thanks to 2 field goals.

The second half started off where the first one ended, with both teams punting, but one team finally found the endzone when the Broncos scored on a touchdown from Courtland Sutton. The Jets responded with a field goal to take the lead, but the Broncos responded right back, making it a 10-9 game.

Both teams returned to not scoring, until the Broncos were in a good position to take a 4-point lead, but a missed field goal from Wil Lutz gave the Jets hope with a minute and a half left on the clock. Starting at their own 40-yard line, the Jets marched down the field to set Greg Zuerlein for the game-winning kick, but a miss to the right, ended the game and the Jets’ hopes of winning.

What to Look Out for This Week

This week, the Jets will be traveling to London to take on the Minnesota Vikings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Fans will have to prepare for an early game, as the game is set to start at 9:30 in the morning. The Jets will hope to hold off the red-hot Vikings and their former QB Sam Darnold, to bring their record back to over .500.

The Giants will also be playing away this week, facing the Seahawks this Sunday at 4:25. The Giants will enter this game as underdogs again, but will hope to pull off another upset victory, in addition to Malik Nabers continuing his heroics this season.
