For both the Jets & Giants, Week 4 did not provide the results that they were hoping for, but this past week provided them an opportunity to get back in the win column. However, the games proved to have 2 very different outcomes for the teams. For the Jets, they were unable to capture that last-second magic and lead a game-winning drive, while the Giants got the big play at the end of the game to secure their victory.
Jets Fall to Viking 23-17 in London
Jets fans had to wake up earlier for last week’s game, as it started 9:30 am EST, since the game was being played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The early wake up seemed pointless for Jets fans early on, as the Jets quickly fell in a 17-0 deficit after a pair of interceptions from Aaron Rodgers.
The Jets took on the undefeated Vikings and their former QB Sam Darnold, hoping to hand the team their first loss of the season. The Jets got closer before the half ended thanks to a 14-yard receiving touchdown from Allen Lazard.
Offsetting field goals in the 3rd and 4th quarter kept the Jets in a 10-point deficit at 20-10. However, a timely interception from Brandin Echols put the Jets in Vikings territory, which led to a Garrett Wilson touchdown to make the game 20-17 with 6 minutes remaining in the game.
A Vikings field goal made it a 6-point game, but the Jets could still steal a win if Aaron Rodgers was able to lead a game-winning drive, something he has done many times throughout his historic career. The Jets rushed down the field all the way to the Vikings 26-yard line with just under a minute left in the game. However, the Jets’ heroics fell short as Rodgers threw his third interception of the game to secure the win for the Vikings.
Giants Upset Seahawks on Game-Winning Field Goal Block in 29-20 Victory
The Giants entered their game against the Seattle Seahawks as significant underdogs, a position that they were comfortable being in, as it’s where they’ve been for most of the games this season. The game, however, could not have gotten off to a more heartbreaking start for the team, however, as the Giants pushed all the to the Seahawks 1-yard line, only to lose the ball and give up a 102-yard fumble return touchdown.
The Giants fought back, though, as they have all season and made it a tie game thanks to a Wan’Dale Robinson touchdown. Alternating field goals from both teams kept it a tie game heading into the second half, which is a better position than many predicted the Giants would be in at this point of the game.
In their second drive of the half, a 30 yard touchdown from Darius Slayton put the Giants up 17-10. As the game progressed, the Giants got 2 more field goals, while the Seahawks got 1 to make it a 23-13 game. However, the Seahawks finally found the endzone once again to make it a 23-20 game and a field goal away from it being tied again.
As the Seahawks lined up to take their game-tying field goal with just under a minute left in the game, Isaiah Simmons blocked the 47-yard attempt and Bryce Ford-Wheaton brought it back to the endzone to make it 29-20 and guarantee the Giants’ win.
What to Look for This Week
This week, the Jets will be taking on a divisional rival in the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football at MetLife Stadium. This will be the team’s first game without head coach Robert Saleh, since his surprise firing. The Jets are hoping to get back into the win column, now riding a 2-game losing streak.
The Giants will also be playing in a primetime football spot for Sunday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite only having one win, the Bengals are still favored to win this matchup, putting the Giants in a position to stage another upset victory for the second consecutive week.
