With both the Jets and the Giants coming off of losses in Week 6, the teams from the Meadowlands looked to avenge their losses this past Sunday. The Giants were hosting a divisional rival in the Eagles, while the Jets traveled to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers on Sunday night for another primetime game. However, both teams were unable to walk away with the victory in their games.
Jets Fall to Steelers 37-15 After Allowing 31 Unanswered Points
Entering the match against the Steelers, the Jets had plenty to look out for, as it was their first game since acquiring All-pro wide receiver Davante Adams from the Raiders. The team’s newest addition looked to have been the missing piece the offense needed at first, as the team got out to a 15-6 lead thanks to touchdowns from Breece Hall and Tyler Conklin.
However, an Aaron Rodgers interception before the end of the 1st half set the Steelers up to push down the field and score a touchdown, making it 15-13 at halftime. To start the second half, the Steelers wound up taking the lead on a field goal and did not look bad from there. Scoring touchdowns on their next three drives, with no response from the Jets offense, they walked away victorious by a score of 37-15.
Giants Lose to Eagles 28-3 in Division Matchup
In his return to MetLife Stadium, the Giants were looking to spoil the homecoming of their former star Saquon Barkley. The Giants defense worked hard to put that goal into fruition, holding the Eagles scoreless in the first quarter. However, when the Eagles opened the scoring thanks to a touchdown from Barkley, they didn’t stop, getting out to a 14-3 lead by the end of the half.
The Giants offense was unable to pick it up in the second half, as the Eagles continued to find the endzone, resulting in a final score of 28-3 and a Giants loss. The Eagles ability to eliminate the Giants’ passing game played a key role in the victory, especially with the return of rookie sensation Malik Nabers.
What to Look for Next Week
The Giants will follow in the Jets’ footsteps and travel to Pittsburgh this week to take on the Steelers in a primetime bout on Monday Night Football. After struggling against the Eagles defense, the team will look to make adjustments against an elite Steelers defense. For the Jets, they will look to bounce back in a game that they should win. Having already defeated the Patriots once this year, they look to do it again this Sunday on the road, which would be the first time they have swept the Patriots in a season since 2000.
