Collaboration Aims to Address Workforce, Training, and Care

New Jersey’s largest health network has partnered with the biggest private hospital system in India in a move designed to drive innovation and improve healthcare delivery globally.

Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) and Apollo Hospitals are developing and implementing joint initiatives that enhance patient care, improve affordability, and promote community health. By leveraging each organization’s strengths, the collaboration seeks to address critical challenges facing the healthcare industry, including workforce shortages and access to specialized services.

“This strategic affiliation with Apollo represents an exciting opportunity to explore innovative approaches to healthcare delivery and address critical needs within our communities,” said Robert C. Garrett, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health.

“By collaborating with Apollo, a global leader in healthcare, we can leverage their expertise and resources to further our mission of providing high-quality, accessible care,”

Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Group, echoed the enthusiasm, emphasizing the importance of advancing healthcare on a global scale. “By combining our respective strengths, we aim to create impactful solutions that address the evolving needs of patients and healthcare systems. Using technology, skills, and new-age tools, this is one more step in our endeavor to make healthcare affordable and accessible across the world,” she said.

Key Initiatives Under the Partnership

The affiliation will focus on several critical areas, including:

  • Addressing Workforce Shortages: With an expected shortage of one million nurses in the U.S. by 2030, HMH and Apollo will explore international recruitment and training programs to bolster the healthcare workforce.
  • Education and Training: The partnership will create new opportunities for education and training, particularly in nursing and other clinical areas, to strengthen the healthcare workforce.
  • Virtual Assistant Programs: Apollo will evaluate the feasibility of providing virtual assistant programs to HMH, streamlining care administration and efficiency.
  • Oncology Collaboration: Specialists from both organizations will work together on second opinion consultations, tumor boards, genomic sequencing, and advanced therapies such as CAR-T cell therapy and bone marrow transplants.
  • Clinical Support: Apollo may support HMH in specialized services, centers of excellence, and clinical research initiatives.
  • Community Engagement: The collaboration will develop initiatives to engage New Jersey’s South Asian community, which includes one of the largest Indian populations in the U.S.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Both organizations will explore opportunities to share expertise in areas such as revenue cycle management, human resources, and supply chain processes.

A dedicated Partnership Committee, comprising senior executives from both HMH and Apollo, will oversee the implementation of these initiatives.

The agreement represents a significant step in global healthcare cooperation, reinforcing the commitment of both organizations to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while tackling some of the industry’s most pressing challenges.
