Seven years after Ridgewood’s brick bus shelter at the corner of Van Neste Square and Dayton Street was deemed structurally unsound, it has finally been demolished. It will now be replaced with a three-sided glass “bus stop” style enclosure for passengers boarding NJ Transit buses.
The demolition was initially planned for 2018, but was halted after the Historic Preservation Commission identified the building as having “historical significance”. The bus shelter was constructed in the 1960s and stood until its recent demolition.
The bus shelter was deemed ‘structurally unsound’ by an engineer, leading to its demolition. The new bus stop is meant to prevent any safety issues that might have come with the old bus shelter.
