Join the Bergen County Historical Society on Feb. 22 for George Washington’s Birthday Celebration

On Feb. 22, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Bergen County Historical Society will be celebrating the birthday of America’s first president George Washington at Historic New Bridge Landing. The event will feature live music and entertainment, as the birthday of one of America’s most iconic names is celebrated.

The Tricorne Dance Ensemble, which is under the direction of dance mistress Denise Piccino, will be performing an hour-long program that honors the life of George Washington through song and dance. The performance will be taking place at the state historic 1752 Steuben House at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The music will be provided by Ridley and Anne Enslow on the fiddle and hammered dulcimer.

The Steuben House will also be displaying selections from the Bergen County Historical Society’s Washington collection, in addition to artifacts from the Revolutionary War. The displays help create a more immersive and educational experience for guests.

There will be food and drinks available at the event, with refreshments made ready for purchase at the tavern. A Cheshire pork pie, orange chess pie and syllabub will be made in the kitchen using 18th century recipes.

Re-enactors from the 3rd New Jersey Regiment will be on site at the event demonstrating military life. The event provides all types of entertainment for guests who come to celebrate the occasion.

There are several activities for family fun, including a Washington themed scavenger hunt that boasts a prize. There will also be the Bergen County Historical Society’s QR Code History Challenge, which is a cell phone-based scavenger hunt that allows visitors to scan QR codes throughout the site to watch videos and answer questions.

Tickets for the event are $12 for adults, $7 for students and free of charge for members of the Bergen County Historical Society. To purchase tickets for the event, visit Washington’s Birthday Celebration | New Bridge Landing.
