Over the past few weeks, the Meadowlands has hosted seven matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With some of the sport’s biggest stars travelling to the region, hotels were needed to provide them with the proper amenities and comfort that is needed before playing in some of the biggest games of their life. The MC Hotel in Montclair, New Jersey, established itself as a premier spot for teams visiting the Garden State to participate in the tournament.
Three teams have stayed at the MC Hotel so far, with the most recent being Norway, who just won a round of 16 match in the Meadowlands to advance to the quarterfinals. Two other teams, England and Germany, visited the hotel during their group stage matches for the tournament.
The MC Hotel being chosen by some of the biggest teams in the tournament was not a coincidence, but instead a result of the work that the destination put into becoming a top spot for visiting teams. The hotel had previously hosted teams during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, helping the venue build a positive reputation amongst teams and players. The favorable reviews made the MC Hotel a prime choice for several competing teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Also providing an additional boost was the fact that the MC Hotel is a Marriott Property, which is FIFA’s preferred hotel brand. Hosting big names is nothing new to the MC Hotel, which has seen many stars come to visit during movie shoots, including Adam Sandler, Emma Roberts and Billy Bob Thornton, among many others.
While there is much to do in the surrounding area, it is all business for the visiting teams, as they have one goal in mind, which is bringing the FIFA World Cup trophy back to their nation. The MC Hotel has aided in that process for many teams, lending their amenities to participating teams that have visited. The teams spend lots of time in the meetings and film sessions on the hotel’s second floor, where there are plenty of conference and breakout rooms.
While the hotel will remain empty of any special soccer guests over the next week, once the FIFA World Cup final comes to the Meadowlands, one of the two participating teams will be staying at the MC Hotel. Coincidentally, England and Norway, two of the teams that stayed at the hotel, have made it to the quarterfinals, where they will be facing each other. Only one team can advance to the semi-finals and whoever does that would be just one win away from making a return to the Meadowlands.
