Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center to Host Book Signing This Sunday

On Sunday, July 12, from 2-4 p.m., the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center will be hosting a book signing with author Addy Baird. At the event, Baird will be signing copies of her new book, “The Magical Game”.

Signed copies of the book will cost $30, which also includes an author discussion and Museum admission. Baird’s book focuses on the superstitions and jinxes that make up “America’s Pastime”, revealing the history behind them.

As with any other sport, baseball relies on physical talent, but it is the mental fortitude of athletes that can bring them from good to great players. Superstitions have long been a part of baseball’s history, from curses that left teams in decade-long championship droughts to rituals that help players improve their skills. It is impossible to discuss the history of the sport without acknowledging the role that these superstitions have played in it.

Baird is not who many would typically think of when seeing the author of a book on baseball. As a woman who has spent time covering politics, she brings a new light to these stories, using her investigative reporting skills to decipher some of these superstitions and mysteries.
