New York Jets, Giants Face Off at MetLife Stadium in Battle for the Meadowlands

MetLife Stadium is one of the Meadowlands’ top attractions drawing in millions of visitors each year, with many coming to watch the New York Jets and Giants, which split time playing home games at the stadium. The teams only play once every four years during the regular NFL season, though fans can watch the two teams from the Meadowlands face off every year during the NFL preseason. On Friday, Aug. 28, at 7:30 p.m., fans can watch the two teams face off in their annual preseason bout at MetLife Stadium.

The Jets currently hold a three-game winning streak over the Giants in their most recent regular season matchups, having last lost to the Giants in 2011. The Jets have been unable to translate this dominance to preseason games, as the Giants won their last matchup in 2025, winning by a score of 31-12, with much help from then-rookie Jaxson Dart.

In the two preseason games that both teams have played so far during the preseason, they have both recorded one win and one loss, with this match determining which team finishes the preseason with a winning record. The Jets and Giants both lost their opening preseason games, but bounced back this past week to even up their records.

This will serve as the final preseason games for both teams before the official NFL season begins. After this matchup, each team will get another week of preparation and then take the field for the first game of the 2026 NFL regular season on Sunday, Aug. 13. The Jets and Giants will both be entering the season with rosters that boast plenty of young talent looking to cement their name in the league.

For the Jets, the team selected three players in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft to pair with the return of some established veterans to the team, including quarterback Geno Smith and linebacker Demario Davis, who previously played for the team nearly a decade ago. The veteran leadership combined with the team’s budding young talent is leaving optimism that success is brewing for the team.

For the Giants, their roster was also enhanced during the 2026 NFL Draft, as the team had two top-10 picks. With quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo entering their second year in the league and wide receiver Malik Nabers entering his third year. The team will be hoping that their young offensive weapons can build upon their solid starts and lead the team to victory.

Before the NFL season begins, fans can watch the Meadowlands’ two teams face off as some of the region’s biggest names take the field. As MetLife Stadium prepares for the regular season to begin, the region’s biggest preseason match will take place before the packed slate of NFL games takes over the region. With both teams boasting lots of young stars and a veteran presence, the new season ushers in more excitement to the region.
