A few weeks ago, the NFL released its schedule for the 2024 season and it saw a lot of primetime games coming to East Rutherford. With the highly anticipated return of Aaron Rodgers and key additions in the offseason, including Hasson Reddick, Mike Williams and Tyron Smith, the Jets have been able to garner lots of attention. All the attention helped them earn 6 primetime games next season, which puts them in a tie for first place with the 49ers and Cowboys.
The six primetime games that the team earned this season is a franchise record, with the team facing some familiar foes in the Bills and Patriots and new opponents like the 49ers and Colts. The Jets’ first primetime game will be in Week 1 against the 49ers on Monday Night Football, just as it was last year, when they defeated the Bills and attracted 22.6 million viewers, which was the highest in Monday Night Football history.
In the first 11 weeks, the Jets will have played all 6 of their primetime games, which is the most for any team since the 1970 between the NFL and AFL. Of the Jets’ 6 primetime games, 4 of them will be played at MetLife Stadium. With the following matchups slated to occur in East Rutherford.
New York Jets vs. New England Patriots, Week 3, Sep. 19
What has long been a dreaded matchup for the Jets now seems favorable with the Patriots heading into the season with a new coach and starting quarterback. Last season, the Jets picked up their first win against the Patriots since 2015 and will look to keep that momentum going into this year. The matchup is scheduled to take place as a part of Thursday Night Football and will be streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime.
New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills, Week 6, Oct. 14
The Jets will once again take on the Buffalo Bills during Monday Night Football, a matchup that saw viewership skyrocket when it happened during Week 1 last season. Now, with Aaron Rodgers healthy again, the Jets will look to defeat the Bills under the bright lights again, this time with the help of their star quarterback.
New York Jets vs. Houston Texans, Week 9, Oct. 31
In this spooky matchup, the New York Jets will face off against the Houston Texans on Halloween, a rematch of a game that the Jets emerged victorious in last season, defeating the Texans 30-6. The Jets will have to fight for a win, however, taking on reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J Stroud and a Texans team that made it to the divisional round of the NFL playoffs last season. The game will be a part of Thursday Night Football and will be streaming on Amazon Prime.
New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts, Week 11, Nov. 17
In a rematch of Super Bowl III, the New York Jets will take on the Indianapolis Colts and their rising star quarterback Anthony Richardson who was sidelined by injuries last season. The Jets’ last victory over the Colts came in 2018, so the team is hoping for a change of pace. The matchup will be a part of Sunday Night Football on NBC.
In addition to their primetime games, the Jets will also be traveling to London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take on the Vikings as part of the NFL International Series. The stadium, which can seat over 60,000 fans, is the largest club stadium in London, giving the maximum number of fans the opportunity to experience the game.
The Giants only have three primetime games this year, but they have one of the most viewed slots of the season, a Thanksgiving Day matchup. They will be facing a division rival in the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, which also happened in 2022.
Of the Giants’s three primetime games, two of them will be played at MetLife Stadium.
New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys, Week 4, Sep. 26
The Giants and the Cowboys have one of the best rivalries in football, which is why it seems that whenever the two teams play, they end up on the national stage. The matchup, however, has been one-sided in recent history, with the Cowboys winning during each of their past 6 meetings. With Daniel Jones coming back from an injury that caused him to miss a majority of the 2023-24 season, the Giants will hope that they can get the best of the Cowboys.
New York Giants vs. Cincinnati Bengals, Week 6, Oct. 31
The Giants and Bengals only face each other once every 4 years and the Giants have emerged victorious in their last 2 matchups in 2020 and 2016, however, with a fully developed Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, it will be tough to make it 3 in a row.
