Beginning on Thursday, Aug. 13, NJPAC’s new summer series, ‘Music, Movement & Movies’, will be heading to Newark, New Jersey. The event will be taking place at NJPAC’s frontyard, Chambers Plaza, allowing guests to enjoy the entertainment under the stars.
There will be three events taking place throughout the month, each offering guests a unique experience that follows a different theme. Each event follows a strict format of music and dodge poetry from 6-7 p.m., followed by a dance performance and class fitted to the theme from 7-8 p.m., with a movie playing immediately after to end the night on a relaxing note.
The first event will be taking place on Thursday, Aug. 13, boasting the theme of ‘Street Dance Night’. The night will celebrate dance battles and high-energy dancers, with the movie of choice being ‘You Got Served’. Guests can try to learn some Jersey club dance moves that will be taught by Anthony “Solo” Harris of Solo Expression.
The following week, on Thursday, Aug. 20, the theme will be ‘Latin Night’, celebrating Latin culture and rhythms. The night’s movie to pair with the music will be ‘Encanto’, with the event also including performances from Mario Gonzalez and Inspirational Dance Studio.
For the third and final week of NJPAC’s series, the theme will be ‘West African Night’, celebrating the sounds that define their culture. The night’s performances will feature young dancers from NJPAC Arts Education and Kofago Dance Ensemble, in addition to a West African dance class taught by Jerome Hunter. The movie being played to conclude the night and the summer series will be ‘The Woman King’.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets to optimize their experience at the event, as they prepare for a night of fun. Popcorn will also be available for attendees to enjoy throughout the night’s festivities.
