On Tuesday, all 32 NFL teams had to submit their 53-man roster for the upcoming 2024-25 NFL season. For the New York Giants, one looming question that many had speculated was whether or not last year’s viral sensation Tommy DeVito would be returning to the team.
The Cedar Grove native quickly became an overnight star, thanks to his stereotypical Italian nature and some impressive performances to pair it with. However, with the addition of QB Drew Lock and starting QB Daniel Jones returning from injury, it left DeVito’s spot with them up in the air.
DeVito started and played for the entirety of the Giants last preseason game against the Jets at MetLife Stadium. While the Giants were unable to walk away with a victory, DeVito threw for 103 yards and ran for 48 yards, which may have contributed to him remaining on the team.
It is undeniable that DeVito was one of the bright spots of the Giants’ bleak 2023-24 season, both with his unexpectedly good performance and the extra media attention that he generated. The Don Bosco alum got off to a scorching hot start in his rookie season, winning 3 of his first 4 games, which subsequently led to the rise of ‘Tommy Cutlets’.
Now, with DeVito officially returning to the team, many fans hope to see him make another run again, but just as last year, it will require a lot of different components for him to take over the starting role again. However, if there was one thing that was shown last year during his rise to fame, it is that the Jersey kid can make anything happen, so many will look out for him.
