On Jun. 17, Borussia Dortmund will be coming to MetLife Stadium to take on Fluminense FC as part of a group stage match for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Borussia Dortmund, one of Germany’s most renowned soccer teams, have a variety of star power on their team to assist them in the tournament. With so much talent, Serhou Guirassy has stood out as one of the club’s premier players.
While Borussia Dortmund hovers around the middle of the Bundesliga standings this year, with a record of 10 wins, 5 draws and 11 losses, Guirassy has been having a fantastic season. Guirassy currently has 14 goals and 1 assist in 23 appearances. His 14 goals is double that of the teammate with the second most goals on the club this season, putting his dominant performance into perspective.
Before joining Borussia Dortmund, Guirassy played for another Bundesliga team in VfB Stuttgart for two seasons. His first season was solid, but his second season was where he stepped up to another level. Guirassy set the Bundesliga record for most goals in the first seven matches of the season at 13. His impressive run didn’t end there, as later he scored his 25th goal of the season, marking the most by a Stuttgart player in a single campaign.
Now, Guirassy finds himself in the same league but now playing for a different club. Despite being on a new club, his talents have not faded, as he scored four goals in a game against Union Berlin, becoming just the third player in the 21st century to accomplish the feat for Borussia Dortmund.
At age 29, Guirassy has seemed to hit his stride as a player. Born in France to Guinean parents, he chooses to represent Guinea on the world stage, where he plays for their national team. He debuted in 2022 and has steadily earned more goals throughout each year, displaying his growth as a player over the past few seasons.
As Borussia Dortmund looks to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Guirassy will play a key role in the team’s success. He has already put his talent on display and will now hope to deliver some big moments in the tournament.
