Super Bowl Winner? Ask Thelma the Turtle, Sea Life Aquarium American Dream Meadowlands

If you’re not committed to Kansas City Chiefs or Philadelphia Eagles for Super Bowl LIX, just ask Thelma the Turtle, weighing in with her predictions at Sea Life Aquarium at American Dream Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Thelma, a river turtle residing at Sea Life aquarium, is throwing all bets down on Kansas City Chiefs to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles.

To determine Thelma’s pick, aquarium workers placed in her tank a decorative item with two helmets, from the Chiefs and the Eagles, each containing vegetation. After an initial glance at the Philadelphia helmet, the turtle opted to swim to the Kansas City side for her food.

Super Bowl LIX kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 9) at the Superdome in New Orleans. A Chiefs win would be the team’s third consecutive championship, marking the first “three-peat” in the 59-year history of the Super Bowl.

Sea Mammals for the Super Bowl Win

This isn’t the first time a sea animal made a Super Bowl prediction at a New Jersey entertainment mall. A spider crab from Monmouth County accurately picked the Chiefs to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, earning him the name “Patrick” after Kansas City star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Thelma the Turtle is helping kick off a turtle rescue team event at the Sea Life aquarium located at American Dream Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey. From Thursday, Feb. 13 through Sunday, Apr. 13, guests can learn about turtles, track them, and even name one.
