Amy Herbold Tapped to Lead ‘Choose New Jersey’ Through Next Stage of Growth

Choose New Jersey has selected Amy Herbold as its next president and chief executive officer, effective April 16.

She is taking over for Wesley Mathews, who led the organization from 2022 through 2025. The board said the move comes as the state continues to compete for corporate investment, jobs, and international business.

“With Amy at the helm, we are confident that Choose New Jersey will continue to attract impactful investments and jobs that move New Jersey’s economy forward,” said Ralph LaRossa, who also serves as chair, president, and CEO of PSEG. “With experience in both the public and private sectors, she is well-positioned to attract and retain businesses to New Jersey. The Board of Directors looks forward to partnering with her to advance Governor Sherrill’s economic priorities.”

Development, Infrastructure, Clean Energy

Herbold steps into the role as New Jersey continues to advance economic development efforts focused on infrastructure, clean energy, and major global events expected to drive tourism and business activity in 2026.

Choose New Jersey works alongside state agencies and local partners to market the state to domestic and international companies, often serving as a front door for firms exploring relocation or expansion. The organization plays a supporting role in deals tied to job creation, foreign direct investment, and industry growth.

Herbold’s background spans both government and private-sector roles, positioning her to work across public policy and corporate decision-making — a key factor as New Jersey competes with neighboring states for major projects, per the statement.

The leadership change signals a continued focus on business attraction and retention as the state looks to build on recent economic development momentum.

‘… tell New Jersey’s Story to the World …’

Herbold said in a statement she is “honored to lead Choose New Jersey at such a pivotal moment.”

“New Jersey has all the assets to compete — and win — on a global stage: talent, location, infrastructure, and innovation,” she said. “I look forward to working with Governor Mikie Sherrill and our partners across business and government to drive investment, create jobs, and tell New Jersey’s story to the world, benefitting our local communities statewide.”
