Convention-Driven Mixed-Use Development

The proposal calls for a next-generation, convention-driven mixed-use development designed to serve as a regional hub for events, hospitality, and entertainment. The conceptual proposal will be presented to Gov. Mikie Sherrill in May. It’s also developing a construction budget and financial strategy to guide next-phase decision-making.

“This is no longer a conceptual conversation,” Kirkos said. “The design is complete, the market demand is clear, and the remaining analysis will be finalized this spring. We’ve put a serious, credible development option on the table, positioning the state to determine next steps early in the incoming administration.”

Supporting Events of All Sizes; Bringing Jobs to the Area

At the center of the plan is a 460,000-square-foot convention facility featuring a 300,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 60,000-square-foot ballroom, and 100,000 square feet of meeting space with 75 breakout rooms, officials said. The complex would also include a 6,000-seat arena, a 1,000-room hotel, a 70,000-square-foot outdoor terrace, and roughly 2,000 structured parking spaces.

The footprint is within the Meadowlands Sports Complex alongside MetLife Stadium, American Dream, and Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment. Once operational, the convention center facility is projected to host about 313 events annually and draw roughly 2.1 million visitors.

Further, over 30 years, the project is expected to generate $30.4 billion in economic activity and $3.03 billion in tax revenue, while supporting more than 3,700 permanent jobs and nearly 5,000 construction jobs.

“The Meadowlands has always been a cornerstone of New Jersey’s economy. This plan shows what’s possible when we invest in smart planning and create a clear path forward that the next Administration can evaluate and build upon,” Sarlo said.
